I also believe you can love both games and not have to chose which I refuse to.“We believe that our game suits the Early Access model perfectly. The game has its faults of course, but personally I think it's an great addition to a genre that was near dead. Usually I avoid building coasters because they are an exercise in extreme frustration.īut the new interface in RCTW means I design almost every coaster for every Park because it's so clear with its information and the layout tool is so easy to use. I've seen the complaint that there isn't enough flat rides in both games, but I personally believe it's because those people weren't aware that each page of the campaign has more rises to unlock, to be fair the game doesn't explain this either.Īnother major quality of life increase is the coaster designer, the designer in RCTW is the best there has ever been. The difficulty ranges from easy to hard on each biome and even someone experienced like me has found quiet a few of them very challenging.Įach scenario in the campaign also has a secondary set of 3 objectives that gives you a special currency you can use to then unlock further rides, scenery and shops from that biomes type of rides. RCTW went the opposite way, they clearly focused on the gaming side, there are about 5 pages of scenarios each with a different biome, the starting is temperate the next is desert then tropical etc It has very few scenarios and they are more or less one play objectives, you will rarely have to restart a map to win because they are so easy and it's so easy to make money in that game that everything else is trivial. While I absolutely love Planet Coaster and I can see why people think it's a better game, in the opinion of the gaming tycoon type, it's actually reallllly dull. I am the former, while I'm playing the campaign I will do a lot of work to make the park pretty, I'm way more compelled by objectives and winning the scenario.

Then there are the creators who relish in creating beautiful works of gaming art or creating that absolutely perfectly themed ride. IE: The campaigns, the missions and scenarios, besting objectives, completing achievements etc. Those who play and enjoy the 'game' aspeft if it. In the tycoon game world, especially Rollercoaster Tycoon, there are two types of players generally speaking. Man that's so weird all day at work yesterday I was thinking about writing a breakdown of why I think RCTW is a lot better then people are giving it credit for but I didn't get around to it lol. If you would like a more comprehensive list, I know this genre inside and out just let me know or tell me which of the above styles is more your cup of tea. Project Zomboid is the same premise but in an isometric top down view.

Then you have broader ideas that fit into this sort of game that I feel like you'll enjoy if you like those games, like State of Decay is a 3rd person shooter set in a zombie apocolypse world, your main task is to find resources to build and maintain your own zombie proof fort. Planetbase is almost the exact same premise as Rimworld but on a large scale and you place larger, premade facilities that need to be operated and maintained by workers etc lots of fun Tropico 3-5, all fantastic games with a fantastic sense of humor and very good value for money, they are a tycoon style game crossed with a city builder.Īnno 22 are two of the latest games in one of the most complex and challenge and unique builder/tycoon/management games ever made. Prison Architect is very similar in style, you build a prison room by room and its extremely fun and rewarding. It has a sharp learning curb but god damn is it worth it. Its a space colony builder where you control individual colonists who are stranded on a planet and you build their colony one room/facility at a time, you have to defend them from raiders and research new technology. If you don't mind building your towns buildings brick by brick, Rimworld is another top 5 best games I've ever played. This is my favourite genre too and first and foremost (and I envy you no end if you have not played it) Evil Genius is the best tycoon/simulator game I've ever played and kicked off my real obsession with the genre.
